About PoolvillePoolville is an unincorporated town in Parker County, Texas, United States located along Farm Road 920, about seventeen miles northwest of Weatherford, the county seat. It has a population of 2,325 people and a school district with three campuses, a seed company, a barber shop, a post office (ZIP code 76487), a convenience store,a storage facility, and 2L Custom Trucks. There are four churches: Methodist, Southern Baptist, Church of Christ and The Lone Star Church of Poolville Texas. The United Methodist and the Church of Christ Church buildings are located just west of the town square behind the seed company. Settlement began in the 1870s when Georgia native H.H. Peaster bought 160 acres (0.65 km2) of land and built a house. The community that developed near the site of his home was originally called Freemont; in 1885 the name was changed to Peasterville. Throughout the 20th century, Peaster has served area farmers as a school and church community. During the mid-1920s the town's population grew to approximately 300, but this was soon followed by a steep decline after the Great Depression. From 1975 to 1990, Peaster had around 80 residents. Current estimates put the population at approximately 100. An eight-month drought brought fires to Poolville, destroying hundreds to thousands of acres of land. The climate in this area is characterized by relatively high temperatures and evenly distributed precipitation throughout the year. The Köppen Climate System describes the weather as humid subtropical, and uses the abbreviation Cfa. more ... |
