About Lower LakeLower Lake (formerly, Grantville) is a census-designated place (CDP) in Lake County, California, USA. Lower Lake is located 13 miles (21 km) east-southeast of Kelseyville, at an elevation of 1371 feet (418 m). The population was 1,294 at the 2010 census, down from 1,755 at the 2000 census. Lower Lake is also an Indian rancheria. Lower Lake was founded by E. Mitchell in 1858 and he built the first house there. The first post office opened in 1858 as well. The 2010 United States Census reported that Lower Lake had a population of 1,294. The population density was 480.8 people per square mile (185.6/km²). The racial makeup of Lower Lake was 1,031 (79.7%) White, 20 (1.5%) African American, 18 (1.4%) Native American, 13 (1.0%) Asian, 1 (0.1%) Pacific Islander, 125 (9.7%) from other races, and 86 (6.6%) from two or more races.
